In the Spring 2019 LAILAC was awarded with a Doctoral Curriculum Enhancement Grant by the PublicsLab. This grant was devoted to implement structural curricular changes in the program which aimed to foster public-facing scholarship and public humanities in the department. The grant was used to organize a series of events –on top of an internal grant program– throughout the academic course 2020-2021. The LAILAC Public Humanities Series invited a group of external experts to expose our department to new ideas which would align our curriculum with the current debates on doctoral education in the humanities. The four modules which structured the series – Beyond Academic Insularity, Mentoring & Professional Development, Milestones, and Dissertation – facilitated conversations about the curricular future of the program thanks to the illuminating ideas that were shared by our guest speakers.
