Este ensayo analiza el cuento de Isaac Rosa respecto al papel de la prensa y sus implicaciones acerca de la inmigración africana en el Estrecho de Gibraltar y la significación de la blancura española. Con este fin exploro elementos formales y temáticos de la historia en relación al componente racial. Para enriquecer el texto literario y dotarle de fundamento histórico, me apoyo en datos de organismos oficiales españoles como la Delegación de Gobierno para la Extranjería e Inmigración, el Instituto Nacional de Estadística (I.N.E.) y recojo noticias aparecidas en la prensa española para hilar la ficción del cuento con la realidad social española y así presentar una visión relacional, o dialéctica, de la problemática (o asunto) del Estrecho entre la inmigración de pateras y su impacto en la sociedad receptora.

This paper examines Isaac Rosa’s short story regarding the role of the press and its implications on African immigration in the Strait of Gibraltar and the significance of the Spanish whiteness. To this end I explore formal and thematic elements of the story concerning the racial component. To enrich the literary text and provide it with historical foundation, I rely on data from official bodies such as the Spanish General Administration of Migration and Immigration and the National Institute of Statistics (INE), together with reports appeared in the Spanish press for spinning the fictional short story with social reality, thus presenting a relational or dialectic view on the problem (or matter) of the Strait between the immigration of boats and their impact on the receiving society.
